Gas Meter Services We Manage
New Gas Connections
Supplies for new builds, extensions and premises that have never had gas. We obtain quotes from the network operator and independent connections providers, then manage the survey, permits and installation dates.
Meter Upgrades
Bigger kitchens, new boilers and process equipment often need a larger meter. We confirm the load, arrange the upgrade from U6 through to rotary and turbine meters, and line up the supply contract.
Meter Exchanges and AMR
Replacing old or faulty meters and fitting automated meter reading or smart meters, so you get accurate bills instead of estimates.
Supply Contracts
A supplier must be registered before a meter can be fitted. We compare the market through our gas procurement service so the new supply starts on a competitive price.
Gas Meter Installation for Construction and Developers
The gas connection is often the longest lead item on a build. We work with construction companies and developers from design stage to handover:
- Early connection applications as soon as the gas load is known
- Quotes from the network operator and accredited independent providers, so you can compare cost and lead time
- Meter positions, housings and multi-unit metering agreed before the meter visit
- Gas milestones planned alongside your temporary electricity and permanent power
- Supplies registered in the right name at handover, so occupiers never start on deemed rates
Gas Meter Installation for Schools and Academy Trusts
Kitchen refits, boiler replacements and extensions all change a school's gas load. We help schools, independent schools and multi-academy trusts get the right meter in without disrupting teaching:
- Meter sizing checked against the full kitchen and boiler appliance list
- Work booked into holiday periods, with the process started a term or two ahead
- One record of every MPRN, meter size and contract end date across the trust
- Competitive gas contracts in place before any new meter goes live
How We Manage Your Gas Meter Installation
- Tell us about the site, the appliances and when you need gas
- We confirm whether you need a new connection, an upgrade or an exchange
- We obtain connection quotes and agree a supply contract on your behalf
- We book the meter installation and keep every party to the programme
- Your Gas Safe engineer commissions the appliances and the site goes live on the agreed rates

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a commercial gas meter installation take?
A meter exchange or upgrade on an existing supply usually takes a few weeks once a contract is in place. A new gas connection typically takes three months or more because of quotes, surveys, highway permits and excavation.
Who installs a business gas meter?
The meter is fitted by a Meter Asset Manager appointed by your gas supplier. The network operator or an independent provider builds the connection to the main, and a Gas Safe registered engineer works on the pipework and appliances inside the building. E for Energy coordinates all of them.
Do you work with construction companies on multiple sites?
Yes. We support contractors and developers running several projects at once, with one point of contact for every connection, meter and supply contract.
Can you help a school upgrade its gas meter for a new kitchen?
Yes. We check the meter size against the new appliances, arrange the upgrade for a holiday period where possible and put a competitive contract in place before the new meter goes live.
How much does a new gas connection cost?
It depends on the distance from the main, the pipe size, the pressure tier and the cost of excavation and reinstatement. We obtain quotes from more than one provider so you can compare cost and lead time.
Will my new supply be on deemed rates?
Not if a contract is agreed before the meter is fitted. We arrange the contract as part of the installation so the supply starts on a negotiated price.
