Meter Operator (MOP) Agreements Explained
If your electricity supply is provided on an HH (half hourly) basis, by law you must have a Meter Operator (MOP) agreement in place. If you do not have a MOP agreement in place, your supplier will automatically apply their default MOP charges. Default MOP charges are commonly more expensive than necessary.
Commonly considered default charges range from £50-£150; based on a default MOP charge this could equate to £1,800 a year added to your electricity costs. However, using a MOP contract arranged through E for Energy will probably ensure you reduce the MOP charges you pay by more than half.
MOP agreements are valuable for any business that has an HH meter as these are implemented when a site’s maximum demand is over 100kW.
Why Have Your Own MOP Agreement?
Your own MOP agreement gives your business the ability:
• To avoid unreasonable supplier default charges;
• To obtain billing based on actual consumption rather than estimates;
• Access to all detailed half-hourly data, which you can use to manage and mitigate consumption; and
• To adhere to energy market regulation compliance.
How Much Can You Save with an MOP Contract
Without an MOP contract in place, your supplier could be charging you between £50 - £150 every month. That's £1500 per year. With an E for Energy negotiated contract, your potential MOP services would cost from just £25 per month (£300 per year). That's an amazing potential saving of up to £1,500 every year!
